Disk Size

Definition

Disk Size is the scale radius of a galaxy's disk, set by its halo's spin: gas sinks until its spin holds it up, so a disk is λ/√2 of its halo across, a few hundredths. Formally, R_d = λ · R_h / √2, where R_d [𝕃] is the disk's scale radius, λ [∅] the halo spin parameter and R_h [𝕃] the halo's radius: [𝕃] = [𝕃]. It connects to Halo Spin Parameter and Galaxy (BPT).

Mathematical Expression

R_d = λ · R_h / √2
