Pulse Core Lexicon
Gap Analysis
Definition
Gap Analysis is the book's finding that current quantum systems need two to three orders of magnitude improvement, in both scale and quality metrics, to meet PulseCore validation standards.
It comes out of the book's benchmarking of current platforms against PulseCore requirements across physical qubit count, coherence time, gate fidelity and operational efficiency. To make the comparison realistic, the book counts qubits by their usefulness rather than their number: the Effective Qubit Count N⊹ = Σᵢ₌₁^N⚛⊡ V⊡,i × W⊹,i weights each qubit by a validation score between 0 and 1 and by its operational availability, and the Throughput Efficiency η⥂ = N⊹/N⚛⊡ gives the share of physical qubits that meet PulseCore standards. All these quantities are dimensionless [∅]. Measured this way, existing systems fall short in every critical dimension, and closing the gap requires coordinated progress in all of them.
It connects to Quality Metrics, the Effective Qubit Count, Throughput Efficiency, Dephasing Time Gap, Coherence Quality Factor and PulseCore Qubit Validation.
