Halo Spin Parameter

Definition

The Halo Spin Parameter measures how fast a clump of a young universe turns against how fast it would need to turn to hold itself up; real clumps sit near 0.035. Tidal torques from their neighbours spin every clump up; gas that cools keeps that spin and settles into a disk whose size it sets. Formally, λ = J · E^(1/2) / (G · M^(5/2)), where λ [∅] is the spin parameter, J [𝕄·𝕃²·𝕋⁻¹] the angular momentum, E [𝕄·𝕃²·𝕋⁻²] the size of the total energy, G [𝕄⁻¹·𝕃³·𝕋⁻²] the gravitational constant and M [𝕄] the mass: [∅] = [∅]. It connects to Disk Size, Galaxy (BPT) and Tidal Spin.

Mathematical Expression

λ = J · E^(1/2) / (G · M^(5/2))
