Monkey Exponent

Definition

The Monkey Exponent is the rank–frequency slope that random typing gives with two letters and a silence falling with chance p (Miller, 1957; Mandelbrot, 1953). It is the control a universe's written words are read against: with little silence it sits just above 1. Formally, s_m = 1 + ln(1 / (1 − p)) / ln(2), where s_m [∅] is the slope and p [∅] the share of the text that is silence: [∅] = [∅]. It connects to Rank–Frequency Law and Structure Over Chance.

Mathematical Expression

s_m = 1 + ln(1 / (1 − p)) / ln(2)
