Next-Symbol Uncertainty

Definition

The Next-Symbol Uncertainty is how uncertain the next symbol of a text is, in bits, given the symbols before it, Shannon's measure of how predictable a language is (Shannon, 1951). Binary Pulse Theory reads it on the Pulsecore Drive, row by row, with the silence as a third symbol. Formally, h_n = ℋ_n − ℋ_k, where h_n [∅] is the uncertainty of the next symbol given the n − 1 before it, ℋ_n [∅] the entropy of blocks of n symbols and ℋ_k [∅] that of blocks of k = n − 1: [∅] = [∅]. It connects to Structure Over Chance and Pulsecore Drive.

Mathematical Expression
