Visibility Prediction
Definition
The Visibility Prediction is BPT's forecast that quantum interference visibility falls exponentially with particle mass, on a scale set by the substrate.
The book ties it to matter-wave interferometry with large molecules, using C₆₀ fullerene (mass 720 amu = 1.196 × 10⁻²⁴ kg, de Broglie wavelength about 2.5 pm) as the reference case. It reads the exponential loss as substrate coupling strength scaling with particle complexity: heavier particles couple more strongly to the computational substrate and interfere less. Alongside it, the substrate correlation length grows as the cube root of mass, ξ▱ ≈ lₚ (m/mₚ)^(1/3), an exponent the book justifies by an effective dimensionality of 3. Among the Chapter 7.3 predictions, the exponential mass dependence is to be tested in large-molecule interferometry and in crystalline systems.
The formal statement is V☫ = V_0 exp(−m/m≋), where V☫ is the predicted visibility, V_0 the maximum visibility, m the particle mass and m≋ the Substrate Coherence Mass Scale, 10⁶ amu. Dimensions: V☫ and V_0 [∅], m and m≋ [𝕄]; the book's check is consistent.
It connects to the Substrate Coherence Mass Scale, Mass-Dependent Coherence Time, Decoherence Mechanisms and Coherence Factor.
