Chapter 5 · Section 14

Star Tallies, Readouts and Well-Life Samples

The BPT law

BPT does not state this; it is the game's record. It serves BPT Part 2.9's road and BPT Part 2.10's Stars of a Universe: it reports the counts of the road (stars by class, giants, white dwarfs, neutron stars, supernovae, stellar wells) in real numbers for the level, each drawn star for starMult, so the player can set what the universe made beside N★ = 925·(m_P/m_p). The well-life samples serve BPT Part 3.14's game reading of the wells: "Each well's life, its kind, rank, peak mass, share and child's level, and the census, go on the universe's record."

The established physics

None: a game method.

The game's math

  • Tallies. At the end of stepStars() (stars.js:245–249): S.byType counts every lot's n by class (alive or remnant) and giants alive; S.alive the living; S.gasMass and S.Z the gas and its mean metals.
  • HUD. starLine(S, mult) stars.js:254: "N shining" (alive less brown dwarfs), O to M, brown dwarfs, giants, white dwarfs, neutron stars, supernovae, stellar wells, each × mult; numbers of 10¹⁵ or more are shown as a × 10ⁿ (a phone cannot show 21 digits, 2026-10-29).
  • End card. trueStars('formed') app.js:2745 is (formed − brown dwarfs)·starMult; realStars(k) app.js:2743 is S[k]·starMult; the card notes the drawn count when starMult > 1.5 (app.js:2783).
  • First events. starToasts() app.js:731: first stars (with the Sun in cells), first supernova, white dwarf, neutron star and pair-instability supernova, once each.
  • Well lives. lifeSample() app.js:920, every 4 flips (2 Pulses, pulseCounter % 4, app.js:4551), every 4 ticks of the decay (app.js:2672) and at the final well and the decay (app.js:2541, 2552, 2678): records each living well's mass and place, its peak, and the universe's most matter so far (uni.matterMax); when a well's record passes LIFE_SAMPLES = 48 points it is thinned to the first, every odd one and the last (app.js:923).

In the game

The Stars line sits among the HUD's key lines (index.php:86), its tooltip "Stars formed from the gas past its Jeans mass, by type, with their remnants (book Parts 2.9 and 6.10)". It moves through "none before the Physical Nova", "none yet · the gas is still too warm to collapse", and then the running line of Part 5.4, "N shining · O n B n A n F n G n K n M n · brown dwarfs n · …", every count in real stars. Deep levels read in powers of ten, "1.20 × 10²²" and the like (stars.js:256).

At the end of the run the result card's Stars born box gives the real count of stars made, with "… brown dwarfs besides · … supernovae · … white dwarfs · … neutron stars · … stellar wells" and, for a scale model, "… drawn, each for …" (app.js:2783). The run record's stars object (app.js:2211) keeps each (starMult), formed, brown dwarfs, alive, supernovae, pair-instability supernovae, white dwarfs, neutron stars, stellar wells, counts by type and mean metals. The well-life samples are not drawn; they feed each well's life record and the census of Chapter 3.

The scale model

The counts are real counts by starMult; the samples are of drawn wells.
