Chapter 9

Methods

How the game fits a universe far too large to compute onto a phone or a desktop and keeps it the same universe: the scale model, the Saturation Law, measuring the device, the kinds of fixed number, where the game and the theory differ, and how the game is tested.

Chapter 9

Methods

Chapters 1 to 8 follow the theory law by law. This chapter holds what they all lean on: how the game turns a universe far larger than any device into one a device can run while it stays the same universe. The theory's universes are vast; at level 202 there are about 2 × 10^20 wells and more stars than that. The game runs a scale model of each (Part 9.1), draws as much of it as the device can show by one law (Parts 9.2 and 9.3), lets every drawn thing stand for its share of the real ones, and writes down every fixed number in the code with the reason it is there (Part 9.4). The chapter closes with the places where the game and the theory still differ (Part 9.5), how they are being brought together (Part 9.6), the registers of fixed numbers, and how the game is tested.
