Chapter 10 · Section 10
The Harmonics
- Harmonic h comes at (1 − 3/h) of the life, counted from the big bang (the Data Harmonics law, Part 2.7): Harmonic 4 at a quarter of the life after it, Harmonic 6 at half, and so on, crowding toward the end.
- Harmonics that fall within one Tempo of each other arrive together, the Tempo being the universe's finest tick.
- Each harmonic collapses the densest places it finds into new wells, and the lattice rings stronger. Harmonic 4 completes the fourfold scaffold, spacetime.
- A universe has 3 · 2^L harmonics in its life (the Layer Count Law); past Harmonic 4 they pass quietly, without a banner.
The method, in plain steps:
each step of the life:
t ← the universe's Tempos since its Data Nova
while the next harmonic's Tempo ≤ t → advance to it
if a harmonic was reached → its nova
harmonicTempo(h) = ⌈2^L / 3⌉ + ⌈2^L · (1 − 3/h)⌉ for h > 3
The code:
// public/game-v8.4/app.js:4321 harmonicTempo()
function harmonicTempo(h) {
if (!uni) return Infinity;
if (h <= 3) return Math.ceil(uni.rupturePulses * (1 - 2 / Math.max(2, h))); /* the data's count, beyond time */
return physicalTempo() + Math.ceil(uni.rupturePulses * (1 - 3 / h));
}
// public/game-v8.4/app.js:4518 updateCore(), the check
const t = universePulses(); let h = novaCount + 1;
if (harmonicTempo(h) <= t && t !== lastHarmonicTempo) {
while (h < uni.layers && harmonicTempo(h + 1) <= t) h++;
novaCount = h - 1; lastHarmonicTempo = t; triggerInfoNova();
}
