PulseCore

Chapter 2 · Section 6

The Two Pulsecore Novas and the Inside-Out Turn

The BPT law

BPT Part 3.6, the UniSpheral Outward Expansion Set: "the sequence of four Data Novas that transform recursion into physical reality. The process begins with Toroidal Genesis, the Null Nova, which forges the substrate architecture as empty space, followed by Dimensional Genesis, the Data Nova, where the data pours onto space and gives it its axes. Temporal Genesis then imposes the arrow of time, and Spacetime Genesis locks three spatial and one temporal axis into a stable 4D scaffold."

The first two belong to the Pulsecore. Toroidal Genesis, n = 1, is "the null of the Pulsecore's bits expelled as space. It does not create matter or dimension but forges the toroidal substrate, empty of data." Dimensional Genesis, n = 2, "marks the first true expansion of data beyond containment: the Pulsecore's data pours out onto the space the Null Nova made and lays its lattice over it ... What arises is not yet matter, but the measurable axes that will later host energy, particles, and fields." The Bifold Containment Law's commentary adds the turn itself: "At the Data Nova the bubble turns inside out ... The Pulsecore, emptied first of its null and then of its data, holds neither: it becomes the Null Vacuum, a true vacuum, the hole the torus circulates through."

BPT Part 3.5, The Pulse Front, says how big the space is and how the hole closes: "Harmonic 1, the Null Nova, releases a fixed count of places, χ∂/2, and the universe is the torus they make," and the horn torus's throat is "the one singular place ... where the horn torus closes to a point; that is the Source, and data crossing it passes through the Source and out again."

The established physics

None: a game method. The Null Nova and the Data Nova are the theory's events, and their timing is Part 2.4's law.

The game's math

triggerInfoNova() app.js:5099 runs every nova. Inside it, performNovaSequence() adds one to novaCount, then:

  • The Null Nova (nullNova, app.js:5231): epoch singularity and novaCount = 1. No data moves. Its center is the middle of the field, the scene shows half the space made (setSpace(0.5) app.js:5297), and the HUD reads "Pulsecore · filling toward its Data Nova".
  • The Data Nova (dataNova, app.js:5232): epoch singularity and novaCount ≥ SPACE_LAYER = 2 (universe.js:398); novaCount is set to exactly 2. Then:
    1. pinSkin is cleared: the Pulsecore keeps nothing (ruling of 2026-10-26).
    2. The information measure of Part 2.4 is taken.
    3. The inside-out turn, insideOutTurn() app.js:548, maps every row r of the lit and pulser fields to a new row nr = round(mid + side·(w + |d|·(half − w)/half)), with d = r − mid, mid = half = rows/2, w = 1, and side the sign of d. Columns stay. The data thrown out of the inner equator lands on the rest of the skin. Exposure is cleared and colors are kept.
    4. eruptOntoScaffold() app.js:1104 places the overflow (n + 1)² − χ_∂ into empty cells, chosen by a weighted draw (the scaffold's weight, from scene3d) keyed by a hash of the place and the frame, so a replay lands the same.
    5. birthFrame is set to this frame, the dilation scale to 1, and the epoch to universe.
  • Then the wells of the Data Nova (Chapter 3).

eruptOntoScaffold()'s palette samples the frame's colors on an 8×8 lattice of the field, at most 64 colors (app.js:1128). The weighted draw uses the key log(u)/w with w = SCAFFOLD_SHARE·weight/mean + (1 − SCAFFOLD_SHARE), and SCAFFOLD_SHARE = 0.35 (zeldovich.js:28). The hash uses the multiplicative constants 0x9e3779b9, 2654435761, 2246822507 and 3266489909 (app.js:1122): the golden-ratio constant, Knuth's multiplicative hash and the two finalizer constants of MurmurHash3.

In the game

Each Pulsecore nova is announced by a banner at the top of the page for 2.8 seconds (app.js:5246, 5337), built from a kicker, a title and a line of text (bannerHTML() app.js:2713).

The Null Nova's banner reads "Null Nova · space is born," titled "Harmonic 1 · Toroidal Genesis," with the line "the null of N bits leaves the Pulsecore as N places of empty space: the torus stands round it, empty," N being (n₁ + 1)², 33,124 at level 6 (app.js:5240–5241). Its hue is violet. In 3D the dark haze inside the core vanishes and a faint violet torus of space stands round the Pulsecore, easing out of it and then growing as space is made, one place a bit, until it reaches the full torus at the Data Nova (setSpace() scene3d.js:1181, fed N/χ_∂ each flip at app.js:517). The readout's epoch line changes to "Pulsecore · filling toward its Data Nova" and the Layer line to "1 of 192 · Harmonic 1 · Toroidal Genesis" on a desktop (updateLayerHud() app.js:2113).

The Data Nova's banner reads "Data Nova · the data erupts," titled "Harmonic 2 · Dimensional Genesis," with the line "every bit the Pulsecore held bursts onto the lattice at pulse speed · not yet matter: the scaffold of space." In 3D (setEpoch('nova') scene3d.js:1205) the points inside the core are cleared and a burst of colored points, sampled from the lit skin, flies out of the center, through the throat and round inside the tube, and lands on the lattice's lines and rings, which then carry it outward with the lattice's phase until the Physical Nova (makeDataEruption() scene3d.js:291, stepDataEruption() scene3d.js:315). The torus fades in over the veil of space and takes the field as its skin; the hole is drawn as a dark violet sphere at the center; the lattice is laid at once (setLayer(2) scene3d.js:1243). In 2D the field is replaced by the turned field: every row pushed outward from the middle row, the two rows at the throat left empty. The epoch line now reads "Universe · the data roams the scaffold at light speed" (app.js:2146), the Layer line "2 of 192 · Harmonic 2 · Dimensional Genesis," and the Wells line is relabeled "Proto Wells" (app.js:2140).

The About panel's card "Three epochs" tells the player the story: "What you paint is the information inside the Pulsecore. Start seals it and processes it; the Null Nova expels its null as empty space, and the Data Nova turns it inside out onto that space, a universe with the Hollow at its heart" (index.php:307). A notice for the Data Nova, "Every bit the Pulsecore held is out on the lattice at pulse speed · the core is empty now, the pin head at the centre," is written but silenced by QUIET (app.js:5267).

The scale model

The turn and its arithmetic are on the drawn rows. A band of w = 1 drawn row stands for 2^(L−Lm) true rows, so at level 28 the empty band is about 4.2×10⁶ true rows wide. It is a feature of the drawn turn, not of the theory, whose hole is closed.

Where the game and the theory differ

  • The turn leaves a two-row band at the throat empty and overwrites one source row on each side. On a 256-row field, destination rows 127 and 128 receive nothing. Rows 64 and 65 both land on row 64, and 192 and 193 both on 193, so the data of rows 64 and 192 is lost. On a 64-row field the empty rows are 31 and 32, and the overwrites fall on rows 16 and 49. The comment at app.js:550–553 says the data "now reaches the throat's own row". It reaches the rows beside it: w = 1 keeps one row clear on each side. BPT's horn torus closes to a point at the throat.
  • The field's eruption places nothing. By Part 2.4 the overflow at the Data Nova is exactly 0, so want = min(empty, max(0, round(0))) = 0 (app.js:1109) and the function returns before drawing anything. Everything it would sample (the hash weights, the palette, SCAFFOLD_SHARE) is unused in practice. The banner's "every bit the Pulsecore held bursts onto the lattice" and the 3D burst are pictures of the turned skin; no data beyond the skin reaches the field.
  • BPT Part 3.5 has the Null Nova release χ∂/2 places. The banner counts (n₁ + 1)² places, the data at the Null Nova: 33,124 against χ∂/2 = 32,768 at level 6. The 3D veil follows the book: setSpace(0.5) at the nova, then N/χ_∂.
  • The comment at app.js:550 cites "book Part 3.6, The Pulse Front" for the closed hole; The Pulse Front is in Part 3.5.
