Chapter 9 · Section 9

The Register of Record Limits

Limits that touch only a saved record, a log or a list in a panel, 57 of them. They change nothing that is simulated or drawn. Each will be sized by a byte budget (a saved universe) or shown in full with scrolling (a panel list).

Chapter 1: The Universe from Its Level

Where Number What it limits Could come from
app.js:2544 12 children built at the final well (the rest made on demand when tapped) all wells' children made lazily; list paged in the panel
app.js:980 40 census entries kept in the record's top list the whole census, or a count chosen by the record size

packet.js:105 2^32−1 bytes largest chunk a uint32 length allows a uint64 length or chunk continuation
packet.js:37 6 significant figures of SEED numbers (fixes the packet id; f carries H only to six figures) more figures, or H itself in SEED
packet.js:31; app.js:3187 'binary-pulse-theory v5' rule string in every packet (still says v5) the engine version that wrote it
app.js:3223 8 hex digits of the hash in the download file name full hash
app.js:1046; app.js:3203 4, 5, 7 significant figures kept in LIFE/HEAD inheritance and well-life records full precision

Chapter 2: The Pulsecore Field

Where Number What it limits Could come from
app.js:4267 2 (2x2 blocks) the block read by the Pulsecore information measure (record only) a block of one Pulse Diameter at the model level, stated as a law
app.js:4267 1, 2, 4, 8; 7; 4 the 7-bit block key (4 pulser bits, 3 color bits) the full color lineage, not 3 bits of the hex string
app.js:4269 7 (H/7) the entropy normalization the key's true bit count
app.js:4269-4270 1, 0 (floors) the information measure's floors none needed beyond log guards
app.js:3439 200 (MAX_HISTORY) steps kept for stepping back the cell budget alone
app.js:4510 4e6 the history's cell budget (61 steps on a 256 field) a measured memory budget per device
app.js:4510 2 the fewest history steps kept same budget
app.js:3688-3689 31, 32 bits the nova hash (lit grid only; recomputed per center) a hash of lit, pulser and color fields, computed once a nova
app.js:3734 8 hex digits, base 36 the nova id's form unchanged (format choice)
app.js:4298 2^novaCount the universe's recorded nova capacity, rowscols2^n (v5 leftover) the Layer Count Law or the life share
app.js:33 10 (MAX_RESIDUE) nothing: defined and unused remove
app.js:31 2000 (PULSE_UNIT) nothing: defined and unused remove
app.js:35 8 (harmonicCount) read only by getResonanceLevel(), never called remove
app.js:5314 novaCount <= 4 which novas are added loudly to the Collection the named Outward Expansion Set (unchanged)

Chapter 3: Wells, Sites and Gravity Rings

Where Number What it limits Could come from
app.js:888 LIFE_SAMPLES = 48 samples kept per well life a share of the life's steps
app.js:4551, 2672 every 4 steps life sampling interval a fixed share of the life, so short and long lives sample alike
app.js:1500 200 filled-share curve points kept thinning like LIFE_SAMPLES
app.js:1506 400 sites written to the record all sites, or a ranked sample
app.js:1506 (siteRecord) 4 decimals rounding of shares none
app.js:977 4 significant figures census rounding none
app.js:1717–1719 4, 6 figures merger signature rounding none
rings.js:129 4 periods crystal memory before forgetting none

Chapter 4: Matter and Gravity

Where Number What it limits Could come from
matter-worker.js:10 600 characters of a worker error kept none needed
app.js:4422 2000 ms speed readout window none needed

Chapter 5: Stars

Where Number What it limits Could come from
app.js:684 3 stellar-well messages shown none needed
app.js:888 48 points kept per well's life record (LIFE_SAMPLES) none needed
app.js:4551, 2672 4 well-life samples every 4 flips / decay ticks none needed
